Reception April to May 2009

LITERACY

During this Summer term, we will increase the amount of time spent on formal Literacy. Children will continue to have daily phonics and will be expected to have a daily literacy focus in addition.  For example this week we are sequencing stories, writing rhymes and matching words together.

We will be doing much more writing.

These are all types of activities we would have done in the past but they are simply being taught in a more formal way in readiness for the transition to Year 1.

NUMERACY

Over the next few weeks there will be the occasional piece of Numeracy homework sent home.  It may be something for each member of the class or it might be a piece of homework that your child in particular is struggling with.  Please take your time to complete these with your child and always make a short note on the back to explain how they got on and any comments they made while completing it!

TOPIC

We will be beginning the term with our topic about animals.  We will be learning about different types of animals i.e. imaginary/fantasy, wild/zoo, pets, farm, dinosaurs and

mini-beasts.  We will be looking at the differences and similarities between animals, young babies, habitats, animal patterns and names of animal body parts.

OUTDOOR PE

In the event of pleasant weather we shall be having our weekly exercise - PE outside on the grass. Inevitably some suitable footwear will be necessary.  Could I ask you to include a pair of plimsolls or trainers as part of your child’s PE kit this term, named of course!

It is preferable that the outdoor shoes stay in school during term time, as to save your child (and you!) having to remember them every week.

REMINDERS

PE will continue to be on Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoon and Friday mornings and library will take place on Thursday afternoons as usual.  Please ensure PE kits and library books are in school on the correct days. Please also ensure that all clothing is named, including sunhats.

Children are often bringing in more than 1 toy and toys that are precious.  We have lots of tears when these toys get lost or damaged. Please ensure only 1 toy is brought into school and could the really special ones please be left at home.
